2. EXPLORING HISTORICAL VIENNA—Thursday, 13 March, 14h30
- 17h30
Join us as we venture through magnificent Vienna. In 1857, Emperor Franz-Josef
ordered the old city walls to be torn down and replaced by a grand, wide promenade—the
Ringstrasse. Along the Ringstrasse are such impressive buildings as the State
Opera House, Museums of Fine Art and Natural History, Parliament, National Theater,
City Hall, the University of Vienna, Votiv Church, and Urania. You'll marvel
at the Gothic edifice of St. Stephen's Cathedral towering over the center of
Old Vienna. Then, we'll visit historically important Belvedere Palace. A highlight
of your trip will be Schönbrunn Palace. In the Hall of Mirrors, the six-year-old
child prodigy Mozart played the piano, in the Chinese Round Cabinet room Empress
Maria Theresa held her secret conferences, in the Vieux Lacque room Napoleon
conferred, and in the Blue Chinese Hall Emperor Charles signed his abdication.

7. AN EVENING IN GRINZING—Saturday, 15 March, 18h30

in the Vienna Woods. Grinzing is an old wine-growing village and still looks
the same as it did in the days when Beethoven lived and composed music there.
You'll experience Viennese country hospitality at a Heurigen—a traditional wine
garden. These colorful houses have been celebrated in operettas, films, and
song and are a "must-see" on your trip. Your totally Viennese atmosphere includes
traditional Austrian food, music, and a generous supply of the famous new wine.
